My first winemaker

I kicked off my wine journey at Helen and Joey Estate in the Yarra Valley in 2022, right after the COVID lockdowns. While working there, I discovered a real passion for wine and started bombarding the winemaker with tons of questions. He was an awesome teacher and patiently answered everything. He got me hooked not just on wine, but also on winemaking and working in the vineyard.

Stephen's now at Blackcoat Wines, and after not seeing him (or trying his wine) for ages, I bumped into his stall at Pinot Palooza (such an awesome festival, btw). I got to celebrate the holiday season with my best friend who got me my first wine gig, and Stephen's amazing 2022 Rosé from Blackcoat Wines.

Rose

When it comes to Rose i can be ... picky.. in what really makes me love it. I dont mind a glass of something sweet but when it comes to rose i dont enjoy them too sweet and prefer it on the dryer side. I am a bit fan of berries and floral flavours in wine and have been on the hunt for my perfect rose to match my taste palette.

While running into Stephen i was able to taste a range of wines they had on offer. The one that really stood out was their 2022 rose. Coming into summer it was perfect timing for me to refresh with.

I will absolutely be making more comments on rose as i have many thoughts on their taste along with many more to try. .

Blackcoat Wines

Blackcoat Wines, a hidden gem nestled in the scenic rolling hills of the Strzelecki Ranges in Gippsland, is just over an hour's drive from Melbourne. Although Blackcoat Wines currently lacks a cellar door, they plan to open one in 2025. Stay alert for its opening to enjoy a glass or a bottle from them.
